How to qualify for grant funding
A heat pump technical assessment is required where a homeowner is considering upgrading their heating to a more energy efficient heat pump system and who are seeking grant funding from the Better Energy Homes Scheme.
In order to qualify for grant funding, one of the requirements for a dwelling to qualify for a Heat Pump System Grant is that it has a low heat loss. This is to ensure that the electricity bills and other associated running costs are not too high. You may need to carry out other measures such as insulation upgrades, airtightness measures or new windows to meet the required HLI (heat loss indicator).
Prior to commencing any works or submitting any grant application a heat pump technical advisor must perform a Building Energy Rating survey of the property to determine the current heat loss Indicator and if required provide the homeowner with a detailed specification of works required to meet the required HLI target in order to be heat pump ready.
Once the homeowner decides that they wish to pursue a grant funded instillation the technical advisor will complete the required SEAI technical assessment form for submission with the grant application.
Who Can Apply?
All homeowners, including landlords, whose homes were built and occupied before 2011 can apply. This is defined as the date your electricity meter was installed. Note that this is different to other grant measures where the home must be built before 2006.
